Last night I (Maxine) went to hear Ruth Reichl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruth_Reichl) speak at the Baghdad Theatre. For those who don’t know, Reichl is the editor of Gourmet Magazine and she’s on a tour promoting her new book, “Not Becoming My Mother”. We received a copy that I now have signed by Ruth. While the title of the book is literally true, Reichl said the book is actually about taking advantage of the career opportunities that were not available to women of our mothers’ generation and is her way of thanking her mother for encouraging her to soar. It was a great presentation and I even came away with some restaurant recommendations!
The other significant point about this presentation is that it took place at the Baghdad Theatre (http://www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?loc=9&id=176) which is quite a place. It’s run by the McMenamin brothers and is also a movie theater with full bar and food service at tables interspersed throughout the auditorium. It’s quite an experience and I’m sure it would make seeing a movie into a full evening’s entertainment event.
Tom, as noted earlier, spent the time at Bridgeport Brewing. This was purely to accomodate the fact that we've only got one car and Bridgeport is adjacent to the Baghdad Theatre.
